Occupational Diseases: a four-day international update for occupational physicians in Europe
based on the “EU Information Notices on Occupational Diseases, a guide to diagnosis” (revised version, 2009).
Work-related illness and accidents should be cut by a quarter across the European Union in the period 2007-2012 under a new five-year strategy for health and safety at work, recently adopted by the European Commission. A major tool to reach this aim is the use of non-binding instruments such as exchange of good practices, awareness-raising campaigns, and better information and training.
The update of the Information Notices on Occupational Diseases: a Guide to Diagnosis has arrived at the right moment. The reason to develop and to update these Information Notices, is to improve knowledge about the causal relationship between the diseases and exposures in the workplace, and thus to improve prevention. With the development of a European course, EFOH strongly promotes the application of the Notices all over Europe. The Notices are the basis for this course, and additional teaching materials have been developed. Some experts of the EU committee that prepared the Notices, will participate as teachers in this course.
