Hoe gaan de verschillende lidstaten om met de aanbeveling over een Europese Lijst van Beroepsziekten uit 2003 en hoe zou herkenning, preventie en compensatie van beroepsziekten beter kunnen? Dat is de centrale vraag in een onderzoek uitgevoerd in opdracht van de Europese Commissie in het PROGRESS programma.

Het NCvB is samen met onderzoeksbureau ASTRI inhoudelijk verantwoordelijk voor de uitvoering van dit onderzoek, georganiseerd door het Gesellschaft fur Versicherungswissenschaft und Gestaltung (GVG) in nauwe samenwerking met Eurogip (Frankrijk) en het Nofer Instituut (Polen).

Van alle 33 Europese landen wordt in kaart gebracht (‘country reports’) wat de stand van zaken is, wat de mening van sociale partners is, hoe wordt geanticipeerd op nieuwe beroepsrisico’s en wat goede voorbeelden zijn waar andere landen hun voordeel mee kunnen doen. Voorjaar 2012 worden de resultaten van dit onderzoek gepresenteerd en ook via deze nieuwsbrief worden verspreid. Bijgaand de twee ‘good practices’ die vanuit Nederland zijn aangeleverd:

Intervention for occupational asthma and rhinitis among bakery workers
A convenant program of reduction of exposure to workplace allergens and establishing a health surveillance program in the Dutch baking industry was initiated by the Dutch government and realized in association with unions and employers organizations. A cost-benefit analysis using a model showed a net benefit of   €16 848 546 over 20 years for a population of 10 000 workers, a more than four-fold return on investment. Implementation was cost-effective for all stakeholders.

Control of Chronic Solvent-induced Encephalopathy (CSE)
Screening, detection and assessment of patients with a suspected Chronic Solvent Induced Encephalopathy (CSE) was helpful in awareness raising about health effects of solvents. This triggered a political debate that resulted in a substantial reduction in the occupational exposure to solvents through legal measures and agreements at the sector level. It resulted in a substantial reduction of the annual number of new cases.
