Dit komt doordat beschermingsmaatregelen onvoldoende worden toegepast, terwijl nog steeds silicadeeltjes vrijkomen in een breed scala aan minder bekende industriële processen. De voornaamste maatregel is preventie van blootstelling.

Het Nederlands Centrum voor Beroepsziekten (NCvB) publiceert het overzicht van ernstige stoffengerelateerde beroepsziekten.
Het NCvB is sinds september betrokken bij het Landelijk Expertise Centrum – Stoffengerelateerde Beroepsziekten (LEC-SB). Dit nieuwe expertisecentrum gaat de kennis over stoffengerelateerde beroepsziekten bundelen en een algemene tegemoetkomingsregeling opstellen voor getroffenen.
