Het Nederlands Centrum voor Beroepsziekten (NCvB) maakt onderscheid tussen registratierichtlijnen en information notices. De registratierichtlijnen zijn samengesteld door het NCvB op basis van de internationale wetenschappelijke literatuur over werkgerelateerde aandoeningen. Deze kennis is in het achtergronddocument beschreven. Deze registratierichtlijnen hebben de voorkeur voor het melden van beroepsziekten. De information notices zijn samengesteld door experts uit de Europese Unie. Deze bieden voor blootstelling aan chemische en fysische factoren aanvullende informatie voor het melden van beroepsziekten. Dit geldt ook voor beroepsziekten waarvoor nog geen registratierichtlijnen beschikbaar zijn.
